Signature show off new clip from Brit horror
A Banquet
by Ellis Reed
We’ve been waiting for a chance to see A Banquet since we first heard about it, and now, further whetting our appetites, the UK distributor has put a clip from the film on their Youtube account.
We ran a news item when they released the frankly terrifying trailer last month, but in case you need a reminder, the IMDb synopsis is as follows:
‘Widowed mother Holly is radically tested when her teenage daughter Betsey experiences a profound enlightenment and insists that her body is no longer her own, but in service to a higher power. Bound to her newfound faith Betsey refuses to eat, but loses no weight. In an agonising dilemma torn between love and fear, Holly is forced to confront the boundaries of her own beliefs.’
Paxton has described it as ‘a film that fits into the brand of horror that maybe Ari Aster is pioneering and Eggers, which is to do with transcendental horror, which is about facing up to, really, the horrors of what it is to be human and the things that are really scary about being alive.’ You can watch the new clip below.
