The New Abject
Tales of Modern Unease
ONLINE BOOK LAUNCH
Comma Press, the UK-based independent publisher specialising in short stories and translated fiction are hosting an online launch event for their forthcoming release, The New Abject: Tales of Modern Unease – the latest addition to the Comma Press award-winning modern horror series.
Comma Press know that many are unable to celebrate this time (Halloween/Bonfire Night) in the way they usually would and hope that this special event will bring spooky season to life, and entertain those unable to venture out.
They hope the online format will make it accessible to as many viewers as possible.
The event will be hosted by Andy Murray, who will be in conversation with contributing authors Ramsey Campbell, Matthew Holness, and Lucie McKnight Hardy.
About the book
Something has fallen away. We have lost something of ourselves, our history, what we once were. That something, if we are to face it, look it squarely in the eyes, terrifies us, makes us wretched. This is the horror of the abject.
The latest instalment of Comma Press‘ award-winning modern horror series – which includes the Phobic and New Uncanny anthologies – The New Abject asks leading authors to produce new stories that respond to that a psychological concept of horror: Julia Kristeva’s theory of the abject.
The abject covers bodily functions that are deemed impure or inappropriate, and aspects of the body that transgress and threaten our sense of propriety. The result: unforgettable stories that will cause unease and discomfort in-keeping with the traditions of great horror literature and film.
Tickets for the launch event are available via Eventbrite.
Single tickets are £4, and a ticket + book bundle £13.
