Jack in the Box sequel out now
03/01/2022: Lawrence Fowler’s Jack in the Box: Awakening has just been released on DVD and streaming...
The original Jack in the Box (UK, Lawrence Fowler, 2019) was a pleasingly straightforward low-budget horror film, based around a superb prop (the box) and its equally effective inhabitant (the ‘Jack’). Fans will be pleased to hear that a sequel – Jack in the Box: Awakening – has just hit streaming and DVD.
I enjoyed the first one so made a beeline for this, and I’m pleased to report that it’s more of the same, but with fewer rough edges. You don’t need to have seen the first one to follow or enjoy the story, and it benefits enormously from slick production, a great score, and the returning prop and costume. Like the first film, it’s set in the UK but has a mix of British and American characters.
The IMDb summary for Jack in the Box: Awakening is as follows:
‘When a vintage Jack-in-the-box is opened by a dying woman, she enters into a deal with the demon within that would see her illness cured in return for helping it claim six innocent victims.’
You can get it on streaming, but if you prefer a hard copy, click the image below to order a DVD.
