Winter Haunts, Sunday 6 November 2022
by Ellis Reed
Would-be horror writers should probably keep 6 November free, because it’s the date of Winter Haunts: a day-long programme of online talks, panels and workshops about ghostly, gothic and supernatural fiction.
The event boasts an impressive cast of speakers, including Sarah Waters OBE (The Little Stranger, Tipping the Velvet) and Horrified favourite Stephen Volk (Ghostwatch, the Dark Masters trilogy). The blurb is as follows:
‘As the nights begin to draw in, WINTER HAUNTS brings together an incredible array of authorial talent for a unique day of interviews, talks and workshops for writers and readers of ghost stories, Gothic fiction and supernatural fiction. With two threads of activity throughout the day – one of workshops and panels and a second of talks and interviews – this event promises to be a must-attend for any lovers of the spookier side of fiction.’
The event will be held on Google Meet and cost £50 for everything or £30 for one thread only. Although the two threads run concurrently, you might want to look at the schedule and consider booking both, because all except one of the events will be recorded and available for ticket holders to watch later.
Event host Alex Davis gave us the following comment:
‘I’m over the moon to be presenting Winter Haunts, and to have the opportunity to bring such an incredible line-up of talent together. We’ve got authors and speakers taking part all the way from Alaska to Australia, and this is going to be a must-attend for anyone with an interest in writing or reading ghost stories and the gothic.’
