Droving director George Popov announces documentary on haunted English forests
by Ellis Reed
As a Horrified reader, you might know George Popov as the writer-director of Hex (2017) and The Droving (2020). If not, you can read more about his excellent work here.
In a newly-announced project called Sideworld, he’ll be presenting a series of documentaries about folklore and the paranormal, beginning with a film called Haunted Forests of England.
The IMDb synopsis is as follows:
‘Director George Popov presents a journey through three of England’s most haunted forests, exploring a trove of frightening tales, myths and folklore.’
Like his two feature films, the documentary will be a production of his own company, the Cumbrian outfit Rubicon Films. Jonathan Russell – the other half of Rubicon, who co-wrote Hex and The Droving – is credited as writer.
I’m expecting some dramatised or reconstructed scenes because Suzie Frances Garton (Hex, The Droving) has been cast as ‘eyewitness’, but I suppose she might be talking about a paranormal encounter from her own real life, so don’t quote me on that!
If Sideworld sounds like your sort of thing (and I’m almost certain it does) then follow the project on Twitter and watch the trailer below.
