Grimmfest announces Easter line-up

Grimmfest

announces Easter line-up

by Ellis Reed

Last year, Manchester’s Grimmfest, whose main festival runs in October, launched a new event called ‘Grimmfest Easter’.

The first one was online only, but this year it’s back as a hybrid event. As well as online screenings, they’ll be hosting a live programme at their usual venue, the Odeon Great Northern in Manchester.

Yesterday they announced the full line-up of films to show on 15 and 16 April, with the online event running from 16 to 18 April. Passes are available here.

It looks like a great line-up, but the film that’s really caught my eye is the English premiere of The Cellar (Ireland, Brendan Muldowney, 2022), starring Elisha Cuthbert and Eoin Macken. The festival organisers describe it as a haunted house movie inspired by The House on the Borderland (William Hope Hodgson, 1908), which is an early work of cosmic horror that was greatly admired by H.P. Lovecraft and Terry Pratchett. If you’ve never had the pleasure of reading it, you can do so for free because it’s out of copyright.
