Far From the Apple Tree – Grant McPhee’s ‘pop-art fairytale’ – is out now on DVD

The 2019 film was the third feature by Scottish director Grant McPhee, and, according to M.J. Simpson, it confirmed him to be ‘one of the most interesting film-makers in Britain today.’ We loved it too.

It’s finally (as of 11 July) available to own on DVD, and I encourage you to grab a copy. If you’re still on the fence, have a watch of the trailer, which is embedded below for your convenience.

HMV describe the film as follows:

‘Fantasy drama directed by Grant McPhee. Judith (Sorcha Groundsell) is a struggling art student hired by renowned visual artist Roberta (Victoria Liddelle) to catalogue Roberta’s video footage. During the process, Judith keeps finding film of a young woman who looks exactly like her, who she learns is Roberta’s missing daughter. Drawn into the mystery of what happened, she begins to lose herself.’

In other good news, the director tells us that Far From the Apple Tree will stream on the BFI Player in September, but the exact date is yet to be confirmed.
