Between 10 and 12 March, as part of the Glasgow Film Festival, FrightFest will present an international smorgasbord of twelve films at the Glasgow Film Theatre.

An extract from the press release follows:

‘From Thursday 10th March to Saturday 12th March, FrightFest opens its terror trove to present twelve tasty treasures; an extravaganza of the dark arts, embracing the latest genre discoveries from around the globe, spanning eight countries in three continents, which includes World, International and UK premieres.

Alan Jones, co-director of FrightFest commentated: “It’s with great delight and with every single bloody bell and werewolf whistle available, we can proudly announce that FrightFest Glasgow 2022 will be an awesome in-person event featuring the best new fantasy, horror and thriller movies, plus all the expected trimmings.’

Obviously, we’re especially interested in homegrown horror, so here’s our roundup of the UK productions…

Homebound (UK, Sebastian Godwin, 2021) is a horror-drama-mystery, described as ‘a creepy and atmospheric chiller in The Innocents tradition,’ starring Aisling Loftus (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Mr Selfridge) and Tom Goodman-Hill (Rebecca, The Imitation Game, Humans). The film already has ten critic reviews on IMDb, and based on those, the outlook is very good!

Mandrake (UK, Lynne Davison, 2021) is a Northern Irish film described as ‘an impressive demonic crime thriller,’ staring Deirdre Mullins (The Dark Mile, Vikings) and Derbhle Crotty. The Ledge (UK, Howard J. Ford, 2022) is a ‘mountain-top pulse-pounder’ about a climber, Kelly, who encounters four killers on the rockface. Stars Brittany Ashworth (The Crucifixion) as Kelly. Zombie fans might know director Howard J. Ford as the writer of The Dead and The Dead 2: India.
